Sports Medicine

When it comes to sports medicine you need to make sure your chiropractor has the knowledge to get you back to 100% strength.

From sprained ankles to shoulder injuries in overhead athletes, we see it all. Dr.Kelley has special training to restore function to injured athletes so they can get moving again as soon as possible. Although sports medicine doctors do work with professional athletes, they also treat children and teens involved in community sports and adults who exercise for personal fitness.

Common sports injuries that can result in seeing a sports medicine specialist are knee and shoulder injuries, stress fractures, ankle sprains, concussions, cartilage injuries, and more. A sports medicine specialist can also be seen for advice in other areas of health, like nutrition, exercise, supplements, and how to prevent injuries before they occur. A sports medicine specialist works to help make the performance of the athlete more advanced, as well as ensuring their safety while performing the activity.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments are special procedures to help relieve joint restriction and improve your overall health.

A chiropractic adjustment, also known as chiropractic manipulation, or spinal manipulation, is a common therapeutic treatment for joint pain. A chiropractic adjustment refers to a chiropractor applying movement to the vertebrae that has mobility restrictions or fails to function normally.

The objective of this chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation (restricted joint), with the goals of increasing range of motion, reducing nerve irritability, improving function, and decreasing pain.

Rehabilitation Exercises

Injury recovery is our specialty, and we have training and skills to get you back to full health.

Functional rehabilitation includes strengthening weak or inactive muscles to stabilize areas of the spine or joints that are currently being used inappropriately due to a muscular imbalance. Without appropriate rehabilitation, injuries frequently result in significant physiological and functional losses which increase the risk for reinjury of the affected area, as well as adjacent tissues and joints.

While this model has primarily been applied to sports medicine and athletes, it is also appropriate for “industrial athletes”, employees who use their musculoskeletal system to perform their jobs, in order to return the injured worker as quickly as possible without the risk of re-injury. Rehabilitation exercises paired with chiropractic adjustments are the gold standard for quicker recovery. Our patients will often be taught specific exercises they can do to "hold" the adjustment longer.

A great way to stabilize the muscle after an injury.

Kinesiotaping is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.

Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

Safe and effective pain relief during pregnancy.

Pregnancy chiropractic care includes health maintenance of the spinal column, discs, related nerves, and bone geometry without drugs or surgery. It involves the art and science of adjusting joints of the body, especially of the spine, which reduces spinal nerve stress and therefore promotes health throughout the body.

Potential benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy include:

  • Maintaining a healthier pregnancy
  • Controlling symptoms of nausea
  • Reducing the time of labor and delivery
  • Relieving back, neck, or joint pain
  • Preventing a potential cesarean delivery

Soft Tissue Therapy

Looking for relief from tense or sore muscles?

Soft tissue manual therapy is based on scientific evidence that muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue develop adhesions within and between them as a result of various injuries that include: acute (sudden injury), cumulative (chronic injury) and pressure (due to poor posture). These adhesions cause the motion of muscles or joints to be altered, resulting in a wide variety of symptoms including pain, weakness and reduced range of motion, numbness & tingling, muscle, ligament, fascia, tendon, nerve, or joint capsules are stretched or held to break down scar tissue (adhesions).

This differs from massage by the use of active movement of the limb, or spine from the patient while the provider produces pressure on the abnormal tissue under tension Breaking up adhesions (scar tissue) in the soft tissue has been shown to reduce recovery rates in patients with acute and chronic pain and is often used in conjunction with a chiropractic adjustment.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a great way to reduce muscle tension and relieve pain. Stop by to see if this treatment option could work for you.

Dry Needling: also known as intramuscular stimulation, is the use of small acupuncture needles to stimulate specific reactions in an area of muscle tissue and the surrounding fascia, or membrane, in order to alleviate pain and reduce muscle tension. Dry needling is a deeper treatment than acupuncture and is different in that it is not affecting ones "chi" but changing the patient's physiological structure.

Auto Accident Injury Treatment

Are you hurting from a crash?

Chiropractors are able to treat neck and back injuries, whiplash injuries, and help with soft tissue pain/injuries.

While no one wants to ever be in an automobile accident, it is important to know how to proceed with treating your injuries should you ever be involved in one. Visiting a chiropractor for professional chiropractic care is one of the first things you should do, as these health care professionals specialize in treating many of the most common automobile accident-related injuries there are.

Chiropractors are able to treat neck and back injuries, whiplash injuries and help with soft tissue pain and injuries. Many times, individuals who have been injured in a car accident have so much muscle pain and stiffness that they simply cannot function normally. This discomfort, on top of other injuries, can be a serious issue.
